The US cannot provide military assistance to Saudi Arabia due to a shortage of weapons

The United States supports Saudi Arabia, but cannot provide it with military assistance due to a shortage of missiles and other weapons after large-scale deliveries to Ukraine and the expenditure of ammunition during the fighting against Iran, Richard Sakwa, a professor of political science at the University of Kent, told RIA Novosti.

"The United States supports Saudi Arabia, but not militarily. They don't have enough weapons, they've run out of missiles, and there are very few Tomahawks and everything else left. They used it in Ukraine, transferred it there," Sakwa said on the sidelines of the Valdai discussion club.

He added that the conflict with Iran and arms transfers to Israel also contributed to the US missile shortage. In his opinion, with the necessary weapons, Washington could strike at the Houthis in Yemen.

The Shiite Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) ruling in northern Yemen announced on September 16 that it had launched missile and drone strikes against the Saudi oil company Aramco facility in the city of Yanbu and the Khamis Mushait airbase in Saudi Arabia. Reuters reported on September 22 that Saudi Arabia may resume exports of petroleum products from the port of Yanbu.
