A teacher was killed by his nephew in the schoolyard in Osmaniye.
The incident took place around 11.30 at Farabi Anatolian High School in Çardak village of the city center. A.E.B., who allegedly suffered from schizophrenia, came to the school garden to meet with his uncle Mehmet Bilgili, a literature teacher, who was said to have animosity between them.
When the argument between the parties escalated, A.E.B. shot Bilgili with the unlicensed gun he brought with him. While Bilgili collapsed to the ground covered in blood, health and many gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the address upon the notice of the people at the school.
Mehmet Bilgili, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital by ambulance after the first aid of the paramedics. Bilgili, who was treated here, could not be saved despite the efforts of the doctors. Mehmet Bilgili's body was taken to the morgue for autopsy.
The suspect was caught in a short time. The detained suspect was put in an armored vehicle and taken to the gendarmerie command.
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin announced that after the incident, a deputy minister was sent to Osmaniye to follow the process on-site, and two inspectors and two general managers were assigned.
Tekin said, "We continue to work in coordination with all our institutions regarding the incident, and we carefully follow the clarification of all aspects of the attack in Osmaniye." he said.
In the written statement made by the Ministry of National Education (MEB); It was stated that M.B., who worked as a Turkish language and literature teacher at Farabi Anatolian High School, lost his life in the school garden as a result of an armed attack by a person who was known to be his nephew, and the following statements were made:
"Regarding the heinous attack, it was reported that there were two security personnel at the school at the time of the incident, one of whom was armed, and that a 41-year-old person diagnosed with "schizophrenia" entered the school garden. The attack took place in the area where the pergolas were located in the garden and while the students were in class. Following the incident, the security personnel immediately intervened and neutralized the attacker, and the person was detained by the police units.
From the first moments of the heinous attack, all relevant institutions of our state, especially our Ministry units, police forces and health officials, took the necessary precautions and a comprehensive investigation was launched on the issue.
The issue is followed closely by our Ministry and all necessary studies are carried out in a coordinated manner by our relevant units. Immediately after the incident, one of our deputy ministers and two general managers went to Osmaniye to coordinate the work. In addition, two Ministry inspectors were assigned to examine all aspects of the incident and were directed to Osmaniye.
Our psychosocial support teams have started rehabilitation activities in the field for our students, teachers and parents who were affected by the heinous incident. Educational activities in our mentioned school are suspended today and tomorrow (September 28-29, 2026).
Osmaniye Governor Mehmet Fatih Serdengeçti said that there was a previous enmity between the attacker and the teacher.
Governor Serdengeçti said, "The judicial investigation into the incident is being carried out meticulously." made the statement.
