Armed Attack in Schoolyard in Osmaniye: Teacher Loses His Life

Ministry of Education made a statement regarding the armed attack that took place today at Farabi Anatolian High School in Çardak village of Osmaniye.

In the statement, it was stated that Mehmet Bilgili, who worked as a Turkish language and literature teacher at the school in question, lost his life as a result of an armed attack by a person who was known to be his nephew in the school garden, and it was stated that the tragic incident deeply saddened the nation, especially the education community.

In the statement, it was stated that there were 2 security personnel, one of whom was armed, at the school at the time of the heinous attack, and that a 41-year-old person diagnosed with "schizophrenia" entered the school garden. It was underlined that the attack took place in the area where the pergolas were in the garden and while the students were in class.

Following the incident, the statement stated that security personnel immediately intervened and neutralized the attacker, and that the person was taken into custody by the police units.

"Since the first moments of the heinous attack, all relevant institutions of our state, especially our Ministry units, police forces and health officials, have taken the necessary precautions and a comprehensive investigation has been launched on the issue. The issue is being followed sensitively by our Ministry and all necessary studies are being carried out in a coordinated manner by our relevant units. Immediately after the incident, one of our deputy ministers and 2 general managers went to Osmaniye to coordinate the work. In addition, 2 Ministry inspectors were assigned to examine all aspects of the incident and went to Osmaniye. directed.

Our psychosocial support teams have started rehabilitation activities in the field for our students, teachers and parents who were affected by the heinous incident. Educational activities in our mentioned school are suspended today and tomorrow.
