Police said the woman was found uninjured at 10am this morning and did not require medical treatment.

The woman failed to return from a hike yesterday afternoon, prompting a late-night search by PolAir and local crews.

A renewed search commenced this morning, with police patrols, Mounted Operations and SES volunteers.

The woman, who police described as an experienced hiker, was walking with her friend.

Superintendent Paul Isherwood said the friend decided to return to town about 4pm, leaving the 66-year-old to climb the summit alone.

SES North duty officer Ben Birbeck said volunteers were dealing with wet conditions.

"We've had a long wet period in the region, so there's a bit of dampness and water in the area," he said.

Superintendent Isherwood said the terrain was "very steep and fairly challenging".

Crews were searching by foot, drone and on motorbikes and utility terrain vehicles (UTVs).

The popular hiking spot in South Australia's Mid North region is about 250 to 290 kilometres north of Adelaide.
