Willy Sagnol left the post of head coach of the Georgian national football team after 5.5 years of work. Sports.ru reports this with reference to the Georgian Football Federation.

Ramaz Svanadze has been appointed the new head coach of the national team. The contract with the specialist runs until the end of 2028. The decision came after a 0-1 home defeat to Northern Ireland in a Nations League match. The goal was conceded in the 99th minute.

“Thank you to Willy Sagnol for every minute spent with the Georgian national team and for the emotions we shared along this historical path,” the Georgian Football Federation said in a publication.

Sagnol has led the Georgian national team since February 2021 and played 57 matches. Under his leadership, in 2024, for the first time in history, the team reached the final stage of the European Championship, where it was able to overcome the group stage and reached the 1/8 finals. Svanadze previously worked with the Georgian youth team and twice led them to the finals of the European U21 Championship.
