During the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, volunteers from the Tainan City "Working Charity Group" continued to do charity and went to the Guantian District base to sort out second-hand furniture. From 2019 to September 20, a total of 1,022 pieces of furniture have been donated to 147 households in the past seven years, saving approximately NT$2.9246 million in furniture purchase costs for disadvantaged families.

Volunteers from the Tainan City Wood Industry Vocational Union and the Tainan City Labor Volunteer Service Association went to the base in Guantian District today (27th) to organize spare second-hand furniture and transported a batch of second-hand furniture to Annan District for storage at the base. Volunteers from the Tainan City Catering Industry Union prepared lunch on site, and Wang Xinji from the Labor Bureau also brought Mid-Autumn Festival mooncakes to express appreciation for the volunteers' hard work.

Wang Xinji said that the mechanism for donating second-hand furniture was initiated by Mayor Huang Weizhe in 2019, using the "big reservoir theory" to centrally store second-hand furniture donated by enterprises, schools and other sectors at the Guantian District base. After professional division of labor, it will be repaired and repainted. Then, it will be given away free of charge based on the repair cases of each vulnerable family and the actual needs of disaster-stricken households.

Among the disadvantaged families that have received donations over the years, some people used to sit bent on wicker chairs and sleep against the door for a long time; there are also flood-stricken households whose furniture was completely soaked in water; they have also helped earthquake-stricken households start a new life in resettlement sites, or helped typhoon victims to have a more comfortable living environment in resettlement centers. Resource recycling also allows love to be passed on sustainably.

The Tainan Workforce Charity Group has completed the 337th household renovation project. Wang Xinji said that the Workforce Charity Group has been able to operate smoothly for so many years, thanks to the volunteers who have sacrificed their vacations and selfless efforts for a long time to jointly build a living space that can protect the disadvantaged groups from wind and rain. The most commonly used second-hand furniture is beds, tables, and chairs. Since disadvantaged families have limited living space, it is better not to make the furniture too large.
