The Northern Forum on Sustainable Development will begin in Yakutsk on October 7

The VII Northern Forum on Sustainable Development (NSSD) will be held in Yakutsk from October 7 to 10, 2026, reports the press service of the government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

This year's theme is “Human Capital in the Age of AI: Demographics, Strategies, Competencies and the New Reality of Work.” The forum program includes more than 40 events.

The forum takes place in the year of the 35th anniversary of the international organization "Northern Forum", one of the founders of which is Yakutia. The headquarters of the organization's Secretariat is located in Yakutsk.

The central event will be the plenary meeting on October 8 with the participation of the head of the republic, Aisen Nikolaev.

Participants will discuss training for the updated Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone until 2050 and its key mega-project - the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. Also in focus are issues of attracting and retaining young professionals and families in the North, the use of AI in education, healthcare and permafrost monitoring.

A separate session “Artificial Intelligence in the Service of the Arctic” will be led by Deputy Chairman of the Government of Yakutia Anatoly Semenov.

The Tobolsk Readings will also take place - a joint conference of the Lena and Tobolsk clubs. Delegations from China and India, including about 20 scientists from Harbin Polytechnic University, will take part in the forum.

On the sidelines of the forum, an agreement on the creation of the Association of Colleges of the Arctic Zone will be signed, and the Russian-Asian Consortium for Arctic Research will accept new members. An Arctic job fair is planned for graduates.

All days there will be a youth exhibition in the foyer of the cultural center "Sergelyakh Lights", an exhibition of the Yakutia technology park and a photo exhibition "Paths of Great Achievements" in the museum "Russia - My History".
