Gwangmyeong City will operate self-driving shuttle buses between Cheolsan Station and Gwangmyeong Cave from the 7th of next month.

Gwangmyeong City announced on the 28th that it will operate the self-driving shuttle bus 'GM1', which connects Cheolsan Station on Subway Line 7 and Gwangmyeong Cave, a local tourist attraction, from the 7th of next month.

The operating section is 12.3km from Cheolsan Station to Gwangmyeong Cave. The shuttle bus being used is a 'level 3' autonomous vehicle in which a driver sits in the driver's seat but does not directly intervene in driving except in emergency situations.

One 15-seater electric bus runs four round trips a day from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Does not operate on Mondays, Tuesdays and public holidays.

The shuttle bus passes through major bases and tourist attractions, including KTX Gwangmyeong Station, Oriseowon, Chunghyeon Museum, Ki Hyeong-do Literature Museum, and Gwangmyeong Cave. There are 25 stops for the downbound route (Cheolsan Station → Gwangmyeong Cave) and 24 stops for the upstream route (Gwangmyeong Cave → Cheolsan Station).

This operation is in accordance with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's designation as an autonomous vehicle pilot operation zone, and the city has built support infrastructure such as road communication equipment and precision maps and completed road verification and system stabilization work.

The city plans to expand smart transportation services by linking this self-driving shuttle bus operation experience with the future mobility of the 3rd new city in Gwangmyeong-Siheung.
