To promote healthy living, domestically produced fresh milk, and food-and-agriculture education, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Yunlin County mayoral candidate and legislator Liu Jianguo, together with the Taiwan Dairy Industry Association, held the “Taiwan Fresh Milk Healthy and Active Walking Event” on the morning of the 13th at Qianqiao Valley in Lunbei. The event mobilized over 500 people to participate in a walking activity, during which they learned about the Taiwan Fresh Milk Label and other related information. During the event, Liu Jianguo proposed that, if elected to lead the Yunlin County Government, he would implement a policy providing two servings of fresh milk or soy milk per week to elementary and middle school students and to seniors.
The walking event was kicked off with a starting gun fired by Liu Jianguo, Fang Qingquan, Secretary-General of the Taiwan Dairy Industry Association, county councilor Hong Ruping, and others. More than 500 participants set off on foot from the Qianqiao Valley parking lot, covering a distance of 2.3 kilometers. Supply stations along the route allowed participants to receive domestically produced fresh milk and related dairy products.

Fang Qingquan stated that there are approximately 520 dairy farms across Taiwan, raising nearly 120,000 dairy cows. Yunlin is the fourth-largest fresh milk-producing area in the country, with an annual output value of about NT$1.59 billion, accounting for roughly 12% of the nation’s total production volume and value. Lunbei Township, in particular, is a key hub for Yunlin’s dairy farming industry.
Fang Qingquan further explained that, to strengthen the identification of domestically produced fresh milk products, starting July 1, only domestic dairy products bearing the Taiwan Fresh Milk Label issued by the Council of Agriculture, or those certified with the Good Agricultural Practices (CAS) or Traceability Assurance Program (TAP) labels, may use the term “fresh milk.” Through mechanisms for managing, reviewing, and auditing raw material sources, these measures ensure that labeled products are made from domestically produced raw milk, thereby enhancing information transparency and consumer trust.
Liu Jianguo emphasized that, following the implementation of the new dairy labeling regulations this year, consumers should look for the “Taiwan Fresh Milk Label” when purchasing fresh milk. This will enable consumers to clearly identify domestically produced fresh milk and ensure that the long-term efforts and dedication of Taiwan’s dairy farmers are recognized and supported.
Liu Jianguo noted that fresh milk is an important source of nutrition not only for children but also for seniors. Therefore, he proposed a policy concept of providing two bottles of fresh milk or soy milk per week to seniors aged 65 and above, as well as to elementary and middle school students. Growing children require balanced nutrition, and seniors need adequate nutritional care as they age. He hopes that through this policy, fresh milk will more easily become part of daily life in schools, communities, and among seniors.
