Yang Ming, a famous political science scholar and emeritus professor at Peking University School of Government, passed away at the age of 77

China News Service, September 17. The official website of Peking University School of Government published an obituary on September 16. Comrade Yang Ming, a famous political science scholar and emeritus professor of Peking University School of Government, died of illness in Beijing at 19:17 on September 15, 2026. He was 77 years old.

The obituary stated that Comrade Yang Ming was born in Tonghua City, Jilin Province in February 1949. He took the college entrance examination in 1978 and was admitted to the Department of International Politics of Peking University. After graduating in 1982, he stayed at the school to teach. In May 1984, he joined the Communist Party of China. He once served as the director of the Political Science Teaching and Research Office of the Department of Political Science and Administration of Peking University, the director of the Political Science Department of the School of Government of Peking University, and the deputy director of the China National Conditions Research Center of Peking University. He has visited Freie Universität Berlin in Germany, the University of Michigan in the United States, and the University of California, Santa Barbara in the United States for further study.

Comrade Yang Ming has long been committed to the teaching and research of Western political systems, comparative politics, political science methodology, and social survey methods. His research on Western civil service systems, social survey methods, and quantitative research methods are of pioneering and foundational significance in China, and have vigorously promoted the development of quantitative research in Chinese political science. He has won the second prize of the National Teaching Achievement Award, the second prize of the Peking University Liberal Arts Outstanding Teaching and Research Achievement Award, the Peking University Outstanding Teacher Award, the Peking University Outstanding Teaching Award, and the Peking University Tongshan Teaching Scholarship.
