More than 850 million iPhones are unable to perform basic functions of "Apple Intelligence", and more than 1.3 billion are unable to use Siri AI

According to Morgan Stanley, more than 850 million iPhones cannot perform basic Apple Intelligence queries, and more than 1.3 billion iPhones cannot use Siri AI.

Siri has been long overdue for a major overhaul. Siri AI was announced as the centerpiece of Apple's annual developer conference ``WWDC'' (Worldwide Developers Conference) held on June 9th (local time). Apple, the world's largest smartphone maker, plans to use Siri AI to compete with competing services such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Anthropic's Claude.

Morgan Stanley warned that while accessibility to AI is one of the key drivers for replacing smartphones, it will not be easy to sell hardware on the appeal of software alone.

According to Apple's website, Siri AI is available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 series and later models.

Morgan Stanley points out that "chip architecture and memory capacity are the main factors hindering the widespread adoption of Siri AI."

Siri AI is based on Apple Intelligence, Apple's proprietary AI system. More than 850 million iPhones are expected to be unable to perform basic Apple Intelligence query functions. As a result, Siri AI, which utilizes this system, cannot be used on over 1.3 billion iPhones.

Additionally, because Apple Intelligence requires a large amount of on-device processing, the most advanced Siri features require 12GB of unified memory.
