LINE Yahoo announces details and response to theme change icon issue and offers refunds

According to the company, since the LINE app was updated in August, it has received many inquiries about ``menu icons becoming the default'' and ``themes not being applied to the home screen.''

The change in menu icon display is a result of changing the design structure of the menu at the bottom of the app when adapting the LINE app to the new design specification ``Liquid Glass'' introduced in iOS 26. We are gradually optimizing the images on the theme side, and the default icons will continue to be displayed for themes for which optimization has not been completed.

The official version will be automatically converted by the end of this year, and creators' themes will be automatically converted in early September.

Some of the official themes have already been updated to accommodate the new design, and the rest will be updated with the aim of being completed by the end of 2026. The company says that there are some themes that will not be supported and will not be covered by the new design specifications due to reasons such as items that have already been discontinued or the wishes of the rights holders.

In parallel with the creators' response, Creators Themes will be updated with a LINE update that will automatically convert to the new design in early September 2026. Due to automatic conversion by the system, the appearance may differ from the original design.

Refund methods vary depending on the purchase route, applications must be submitted by the end of March 2027.

Refunds are only available to users in Japan, and applications will be accepted using a dedicated form. Eligible themes are those purchased by yourself between January 1, 2021 and August 31, 2026. Items that have been sold for more than 180 days or items that have been given as a gift are not eligible. Refund methods vary depending on the purchase route; if you purchased from the theme shop within the LINE app, you will receive a refund in LINE Coins.

It may take several weeks to several months from application to completion of processing, and applications cannot be canceled once submitted. Once the process has been completed, the purchase of the theme will be canceled and it will no longer be available. Applications will be accepted until March 31, 2027.
