China's warehousing index fell back to the contraction range in August, and the industry's long-term positive trend remains unchanged

Data released by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing on the 7th showed that in August, China’s warehousing index was 48.5%, down 1.8 percentage points from the previous month. Analysts believe that this month's index decline is mainly a short-term adjustment caused by seasonal factors, and the industry's long-term positive trend has not changed.

From the perspective of sub-indexes, compared with the previous month, the business activity expectation index increased by 0.9 percentage points; the new order index, business volume index, extended business volume index, facility utilization index, ending inventory index, and average inventory turnover index decreased by 0.5 to 5.9 percentage points.

Yang Biao, deputy general manager of China Storage Development Co., Ltd., believes that in August, affected by seasonal factors such as high temperatures, rain, and typhoons, China's warehousing index fell back to the contraction range. Sub-indexes such as business volume index, facility utilization index, ending inventory index, and average inventory turnover index all declined, indicating that China's warehousing business activities have slowed down, commodity turnover has slowed down, and industry operations are under short-term pressure.

"But the index changes also show a positive side. The extended business volume index still maintains a good level in the expansion range, indicating that the business upgrading trend of warehousing companies continues." Yang Biao pointed out that at the same time, the business activity expectation index continues to rise in the expansion range, reflecting that companies remain optimistic about the market outlook. Entering September, as the hot and rainy weather ends and holidays such as the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day gradually approach, the demand for warehousing business is expected to be gradually released, and the operation of China's warehousing industry will stabilize and improve.
