(Donghae = Yonhap News) Reporter Hyung-jae Hyung = On the 3rd, a vacationer who was drifting in a rip current off Handsome Beach in Donghae-si, Gangwon-do was safely rescued through CCTV monitoring at the Donghae Coast Guard situation room.

According to the East Sea Coast Guard on the 4th, while watching the CCTV at Handsome Beach at 3:03 p.m. on the 3rd, the situation room confirmed that Mr. A, a man in his 70s who was playing in the water on a tube, was swept away by a rip current and quickly washed out to sea.

Mr. A was pushed out to sea, about 120 meters from the coast, and was in a dangerous situation from which it was difficult to escape on his own.

The East Sea Coast Guard immediately dispatched the Mukho Police Station coastal rescue boat and land patrol team to the scene and supported the rescue by sharing the location of the rescue forces and the drifters in real time.

The Coast Guard arrived at the scene, confirmed the direction of movement of the drifter, and safely rescued Mr. A using a power rescue board.

It was confirmed that Mr. A had no health problems.

The East Sea Coast Guard prevented additional accidents by evacuating about 80 swimmers from Handsome Beach, where a rip current occurred that day.

Dong-soo Han, chief of the East Sea Coast Guard, said, "During the summer, rip currents can suddenly occur and people can be instantly swept out to sea, so special caution is needed."
