MOSCOW, September 13 - RIA Novosti. Soldiers of the 72nd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces tried to break out of encirclement in the Kharkov region and suffered losses, Russian security forces told RIA Novosti.

“The Ukrainian Armed Forces are not giving up attempts to break through the encirclement. The northerners repelled a counterattack by the Shkval company of the 72nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a result of a complex fire defeat, the enemy retreated to their original positions with losses,” the source said.

He added that the military of the 22nd separate mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Volchansk direction also tried to get out of the encirclement, but some of them were blown up by mines. The rest were eliminated by FPV drone strikes.

The agency’s interlocutor clarified that over the past 24 hours, the confirmed losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kharkov region amounted to more than 80 people.

The Kharkov region is one of the key areas of military operations in the Northern Military District zone. Units of the Russian group "North" operate there. As the Ministry of Defense stated the day before, the fighters continue to tighten the enemy’s encirclement and expand the external zone of control.
