Kirill Marchenko spoke about the potential for a higher level of play after his debut for the Toronto Maple Leafs

Russian forward Kirill Marchenko said he can show a higher level of play after his debut match for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL.

Marchenko made his debut for the Maple Leafs in a home match against the Montreal Canadiens, scoring an assist in the 48th second.

Immediately after the trade, Marchenko signed a new contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs for a period of six years and a total amount of $75 million.

The Russian was traded to the Maple Leafs from the Columbus Blue Jackets on September 29. Marchenko made his debut for the new team in a home match of the NHL regular season against the Montreal Canadiens (2:3), scoring an assist in the 48th second.

"I was nervous and very happy to be here. I think it's everyone's dream to become a Toronto Maple Leafs player. Everything happened so quickly. I think I had good moments, but this is not the level of play I want to show. I can definitely play better," Marchenko said in a video posted on the Toronto team's website.

Russian goalie Sergei Bobrovsky also made his NHL debut for the Leafs in the match against Montreal.

“He is an excellent goalkeeper. He helped me: he called me after the trade, gave me some advice - it was very useful. He is one of my favorite goalkeepers. I am very glad to be part of this team, to play with these guys and to be in this team,” added Marchenko.
