A court in Yerevan will consider a preventive measure against playwright Vahram Sahakyan for a post on a social network

A court in Yerevan on Tuesday will consider the issue of preventive measures for playwright Vahram Sahakyan, who was detained for a post on a social network, his lawyer Ruben Melikyan said.

“The case of Vahram Sahakyan has been entrusted to judge Vahagn Melikyan. The hearing is scheduled for 20.30 (19.30 Moscow time) in the court of the Yerevan Shengavit district,” the lawyer wrote on the social network Facebook*.

According to him, there is reason to hope that the preventive measure will not be associated with deprivation of liberty.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Investigative Committee reported that Sahakyan was detained for a post on a social network published on January 8, 2025.

He is charged under the article “Public statements aimed at inciting or promoting hatred, intolerance or enmity, as well as disseminating materials for this purpose using publicly displayed works, the media or information and communication technologies.”
