Chairman Lee held a press conference at the National Assembly on this day and said, "Floor Leader Chun applied for the Suncheon Organizing Committee Chairperson contest, and Rep. Lee is reviewing areas to run in accordance with the party's strategy." He added, "I will reject Floor Leader Chun's application for the Suncheon Organizing Committee Chairperson contest."

He then said, "We will start preparing for the 'Gyeonggi Southern Battle' for the next general election from now on," and told floor leader Chun, "I ask you to quickly confirm the area of ​​activity and meet with the residents. Please respond to the party members with a specific plan on where you will run and when and how you will build a regional foundation. You should not waste time saying you will review it further."

At the same time, he pressed, "If action is not followed, we will exercise the authority given to the chairman of the emergency response committee in accordance with the party constitution and rules."

Chairman Lee said, "I am also a target of reform," and announced, "Former leadership and leadership personnel, including emergency committee members, and those who received proportional representation in the last general election will be excluded without exception from the proportional representation nomination in the next general election."

Furthermore, he promised, “The person who has led the party will take responsibility for the region, and proportional representation will only be opened to new talent.”

He said, "Six years have passed since I first ran for office, and my only political base is Suncheon. Not for my personal greed, but for my promise to the citizens of Suncheon and the greater future of the New Reform Party, please make sure to reconsider my refusal to apply for the Suncheon Gap Organizing Committee Chairperson."

It is known that Rep. Lee wanted to become the chairman of the Seoul Songpa Gap organizing committee immediately after the inauguration of the 22nd National Assembly. However, he did not respond to Yonhap News' inquiries about his position on this day.

The New Reform Party launched the emergency committee after many twists and turns after its founder, former leader Lee Jun-seok, resigned on the 26th of last month.

Former lawmaker Cho Eung-cheon was initially considered a strong candidate for emergency committee chairman, but it was reported that he declined the position, and floor leader Chun, who had the authority to select emergency committee chairperson as acting party leader, is known to have appointed Lee as chairman without consulting with former representative Lee.
