Session of the ICC Assembly of States Parties moved from New York to The Hague due to US sanctions

The new session of the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court will be held from November 30 to December 7, 2026 in The Hague.

The location of the session has been moved from New York to The Hague due to concerns about restrictions on participation caused by US sanctions.

The new session of the Assembly of States Parties of the International Criminal Court (ICC) will be held from November 30 to December 7 not in New York, as previously planned, but in The Hague, including due to American sanctions, according to a press release from the authority.

“The Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court has decided... that the twenty-fifth session of the Assembly, originally scheduled at UN Headquarters in New York, will be moved to The Hague from 30 November to 7 December 2026,” reads a release published on the ICC website.

As noted, the decision to postpone the event was made in light of concerns related to restrictions on participation due to the original location of the session.

"This includes the fact that elected officials of the court are subject to sanctions imposed by the United States, as well as visa restrictions affecting certain delegations and representatives of non-governmental organizations," the court said.
