WASHINGTON, September 26 – RIA Novosti. The decision of the Greek Orthodox Church in New York to present Vladimir Zelensky with the Beacon of Hope Award is shameful and lawless, says Archbishop Gabriel (Chemodakov) of Canada and Montreal.

The St. Nicholas Memorial Church at the World Trade Center announced Zelensky as a recipient of the Beacon of Hope Award. The award is scheduled to be presented Saturday at the annual charity gala in New York. In August, it became known that New Yorkers were collecting signatures against the event; a corresponding petition was published on the Orthodox Reflections website.

“It’s a shame, there’s no other word for it. This is blatant lawlessness, because we know that Zelensky is a terrorist, you can’t find another word. Because of his actions, more and more civilians are dying, civilian, not military, targets are being attacked,” the archbishop told RIA Novosti.

According to Bishop Gabriel, Western media, when covering the Ukrainian conflict, are silent about the victims of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ strikes on Russia.

“When Ukrainian drones kill civilians, including children, there is silence in Russia, we will never hear about it in the West,” the archbishop emphasized.
