A wife who neglects education stays home… Court: “Defenseless exposure to sexual infringement and abuse within the home”

(Changwon/Milyang = Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Jong-ho = A man who forcibly molested his minor daughter and abused his other children was sentenced to prison.

According to the legal community on the 25th, the Changwon District Court Miryang Branch Criminal Division 1 (Chief Han Yun-ok) sentenced Mr. A, a man in his 40s who was handed over to trial on charges of forcible molestation due to kinship under the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, to 7 years in prison.

They were then ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence and child abuse treatment programs and to be restricted from employment at child and youth-related institutions for 10 years.

The court sentenced A's wife, B, in her 40s, who was indicted along with A, to six months in prison and two years of probation, and ordered her to complete a 40-hour child abuse treatment program.

Mr. A was indicted on charges of mentally and physically abusing his three minor children, including forcibly molesting his daughter several times at a residence in Gyeongnam between 2024 and 2025.

He is also accused of feeding his children powdered milk mixed with soju during this period.

Mr. B, who was also indicted, was handed over to trial in 2024 for neglect of basic education, such as not sending one out of three children to school without any particular reason.

The court criticized, saying, "As a result of Mr. A's crime, the children appear to have suffered extreme mental and physical pain as they were defenselessly exposed to sexual violations and various acts of abuse within the family for a considerable period of time," and added, "Severe punishment is necessary."

He then stated the reason for sentencing, saying, "Although Ms. B was a mother who had a duty to protect her children, she committed a neglectful act by not sending her children to school. We comprehensively took into consideration the fact that neither A nor B had a history of receiving criminal punishment exceeding a fine or a similar crime."

It was discovered that Mr. A had recently submitted an appeal to the court, dissatisfied with this ruling.
