FIFA accused UEFA of trying to influence the election of the organization's president

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has accused the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) of trying to influence the election of the organization's president by spreading disinformation about Gianni Infantino, Sky News reports, citing a lawsuit.

According to the source, FIFA has gone to court to block UEFA's request to provide all evidence related to the attempted sale of World Cup shares to private investors. Previously, UEFA requested all documents about the commercial project FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) in order to initiate a case against Infantino.

"Shortly before the election of the FIFA President, UEFA filed this application, spreading disinformation regarding Infantino. The Court should reject any attempt to influence the election of the FIFA President on the basis of this data," FIFA said in a legal statement.

Earlier, UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF) criticized FIFA and the organization's president Gianni Infantino for proposing a commercial project, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). Following UEFA's threat to boycott FIFA tournaments, including the World Cup, Infantino said the federation had abandoned its plan to sell part of the commercial rights. Later, a number of European associations called on Infantino to resign.
