Tainan City Councilor District 9 election is fierce, with blue, green and white newcomers competing against veterans

Tainan City Councilor District 9 (Anping District, South District) is up for election for 6 seats, with 9 people running; the current blue and green seats are divided equally. The KMT's eight-year-old congressman Tsai Shu-hui is no longer running because she was convicted of fraudulently claiming assistant fees, and her successor has not yet been determined. She received more than 12,000 votes this term, and the flow of votes has become a variable in the election; the DPP nominated incumbents Lin Yiting, Li Qiwei, Zhou Lijin and former congressman Lu Weiyin to compete for the 4th seat.

Lin Yiting's father is the late local celebrity Lin Shijie. He has a strong support team in the family. He was elected with a high vote when he ran for the first time this term. After Lin's father was shot and killed, attention has been paid to whether local supporters have wavered. However, due to his incumbent advantage, his local strength should not be underestimated; Li Qiwei has been in power since 20 In 2018, he successfully succeeded his father, veteran councilor Li Wenzheng. The father and son worked together to serve voters and take root at the grassroots level. Zhou Lijin, a "mother of two babies," paid special attention to issues such as childcare, education, and maternal and child rights. She put forward six major political opinions to fight for re-election, and won the full support of party mayoral candidate Chen Tingfei. Lu Weiyin, who is regarded as a disciple of Lai Qingde, was defeated by a high vote this time and is making a comeback this time.

The Kuomintang nominated the current incumbents Lu Kunfu, Ye Hanxun and Chen Guanyu to maintain the original three seats. Six-year-old Lin Meiyan was succeeded by his son Ye Hanxun. He was also optimistic about Lu Kunfu's grassroots strength. However, whether newcomer Chen Guanyu can take over Cai Shuhui's votes is the biggest key to the blue camp's ability to retain the three seats.

The only independent candidate, Li Boli, participated in the 2020 legislative election and the current council election. After being defeated by a high vote as a council member, he continued to stay in the constituency and work hard to gain the support of light green and middle voters; the Taiwan People's Party nominated Hsiao Miao-hua, hoping to grab a seat in the Tainan City Council.
