The extreme heavy precipitation process in Hainan Island is basically over, with the maximum precipitation reaching 921 mm

China News Service, Haikou, September 15 (Yunbei Wu Chunwa) The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Observatory stated on the morning of the 15th that the extreme heavy precipitation process in Hainan Island that began on the 11th has basically ended. This heavy precipitation process has the characteristics of "large cumulative rainfall, wide impact range, and extreme daily rainfall", with the maximum precipitation reaching 921 mm.

Affected by the tropical low pressure and cold air in the South China Sea, extreme heavy rainfall occurred in Hainan Island from 08:00 on September 11 to 08:00 on September 15. According to statistics, a total of 116 towns (districts) in the remaining 16 cities and counties in Hainan Island, except Haikou and Lingao, received more than 200 millimeters of rainfall. A total of 36 towns (districts) in six cities and counties including Baoting, Wuzhishan, Qiongzhong, Wanning, Lingshui and Qionghai received more than 40 millimeters of rainfall. 0 mm, a total of 14 towns and villages in the four cities and counties of Baoting, Wuzhishan, Qiongzhong and Wanning received more than 600 mm of rainfall. A total of 3 towns and villages in the two cities and counties of Baoting and Wuzhishan received more than 800 mm of rainfall. The maximum rainfall was 921 mm in Xiangshui Town, Baoting County.

Among them, from 20:00 on September 13 to 20:00 on September 14, the rainfall at the Wuzhishan National Meteorological Observation Station was 615.3 mm, breaking the historical maximum daily rainfall at the station (354.8 mm on October 13, 1989).

The Hainan Provincial Meteorological Department reminds: The extreme heavy precipitation process in Hainan Island is basically over. However, the early precipitation lasted for a long time, the rainfall was heavy, the soil moisture content was high, and some secondary disasters were lagging behind.
