Assistant Vice Governor Kwon Min-soo appointed as the Bank of Korea's new Vice Governor

The Bank of Korea announced on the 20th that Kwon Min-soo (56), Assistant Vice President for International Finance and Cooperation, has been appointed as the new Deputy Governor of the Bank of Korea.

Vice Governor Kwon, who is from Seoul, graduated from Whimoon High School and Yonsei University's Department of Business Administration and joined the Bank of Korea in 1995. While working there, he received a master's degree in business administration from Yale University.

He has served as head of the foreign exchange market team in the International Bureau and as head and director of the foreign capital planning department at the Foreign Capital Management Agency, and is considered a representative 'international expert' within the Bank of Korea organization.

After being appointed as Assistant Vice President in May 2024, he was in charge of measures to stabilize the foreign exchange market and was active in international organizations such as the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

The Bank of Korea said, "We expect to play a significant role in representing Korea's position and strengthening its status in the international financial community through its extensive knowledge of Korea's foreign exchange market and foreign currency asset management, as well as its extensive network with domestic financial institutions, large global investors, and international organizations that it has built up over a long period of time."

The Deputy Governor of the Bank of Korea is recommended by the Governor and appointed by the President. Vice President Kwon's term of office is three years, from the 21st of this year to August 20, 2029.

The Deputy Governor of the Bank of Korea will be an ex officio member of the Monetary Policy Committee, and Vice Governor Kwon will participate as a member starting from the monetary policy direction decision meeting on the 27th.
