The second meeting between Trump and Xi has officially come to an end. The outside world is paying attention to whether the Taiwan issue was mentioned in the talks between the two sides. However, the list of facts released by the White House afterwards did not mention Taiwan. In this regard, Democratic Progressive Party legislator Wang Dingyu said today (26th) that the second session of the Trump-Xi meeting was like the foreign media comment that "the thunder is loud but the rain is small." The United States announced the details of Sino-US economic and trade tariff negotiations on September 28. The focus is on this, but the impact on Taiwan should not be great.

Wang Dingyu pointed out that during the second meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping, China unilaterally released a number of messages, including trying to turn the Taiwan issue into China's internal affairs, discouraging U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, and asking Trump to speak out against Taiwan independence. However, the White House has not made any response so far. It is even revealed that Trump did not discuss Taiwan issues with Xi Jinping. It can be said that the thunder is big and the rain is small.

Wang Dingyu believes that the focus will still return to September 28, when the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced the details of Sino-US economic and trade tariff negotiations. Since the United States insists that high-end chips must use a "non-red supply chain," Taiwan's role will be irreplaceable. Therefore, how the United States exchanges tariffs for Chinese procurement projects will not actually have a big impact on Taiwan.

As for the rumors that Xi Jinping is pressuring the United States to stop arms sales to Taiwan, Wang Dingyu said that currently, members of Congress in the United States regardless of party affiliation are urging Trump to pass the US$14 billion arms sales to Taiwan as soon as possible. The follow-up will depend on how Washington handles it. The Trump-Xi meeting is just like the mainstream media in Europe and the United States commented that it is "a big show, but no results."
