Madison Hwang cancels visit to Korea… Bae Gyeong-hoon meeting and corporate cooperation schedule canceled

Nvidia Senior Director Madison Hwang, the eldest daughter of Nvidia CEO Jensen Hwang, suddenly canceled her plans to visit Korea, and a series of major domestic schedules, including a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Bae Kyeong-hoon, were cancelled.

However, the 'NVIDIA AI Day Seoul 2026' event held on the 9th and 10th will be held as scheduled, and other executives from NVIDIA will attend the cooperation event with domestic companies instead.

According to the Ministry of Science and ICT and the information technology (IT) industry on the 8th, Madison Hwang, senior director of Nvidia Omnibus and Robotics product marketing, was scheduled to meet with Deputy Prime Minister Bae at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, this afternoon, but the meeting was canceled as the visit to Korea was canceled.

It is reported that Senior Director Hwang canceled his plans to visit Korea due to family reasons. The specific reason was not disclosed.

This visit to Korea was scheduled to participate in the NVIDIA AI Day Seoul held at COEX in Seoul on the 9th and 10th, as well as to participate in cooperation with the government and domestic companies.

Following the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Bae, Senior Director Hwang planned to attend a cooperation event between NVIDIA and domestic companies attended by the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 9th.

Specifically, he was scheduled to attend the 'NVLink' cooperation agreement (MOU) signing ceremony between NVIDIA, SK Telecom [017670], and Rebellion, and co-chair the 'Korea AI Startup Partnership Forum' with Second Vice Minister of Science and ICT Ryu Je-myeong.

However, as the visit to Korea was canceled, Nvidia Vice President Ashish Karandikar decided to attend the MOU signing ceremony and Nvidia Vice President Deepu Tala attended the startup forum instead.

Senior Director Hwang's separately scheduled meeting with domestic company executives was also canceled.

The photo session between NVIDIA and Kakao Mobility, which was scheduled to be held at COEX in Seoul on the morning of the 9th, was canceled, and the visit to Rebellion's Bundang headquarters scheduled for 6 PM on the same day was also canceled.

The NVIDIA AI Day Seoul event itself is scheduled to be held as originally scheduled.

Some in the industry are also speculating that the cancellation of this visit to Korea may have been influenced by recent foreign media reports on suspicions that people around CEO Jensen Huang were involved as Chinese spies.

Senior Director Hwang met with major domestic companies such as Samsung Electronics [005930], SK Hynix [000660], LG Electronics [066570], Hyundai Motor Company [005380], and Doosan Robotics [454910] in April of this year to explore physical AI cooperation, and also visited Korea in June and August to expand contacts with domestic companies.
