Iranian Foreign Minister: The US is expected to respond to the Strait of Hormuz proposal

When the Iranian delegation went to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly recently, they proposed a seven-day ceasefire proposal, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Although Trump publicly rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz on the 26th, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi still said that he expected the United States to respond to the proposal on the Strait of Hormuz on the 29th.

According to the Agence France-Presse report, Araqchi, who is currently attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York, said on the evening of the 28th that "Qadda's mediators have put forward some ideas and we have discussed them. It is expected that they will discuss the matter with the United States again, and then the United States' final response will be conveyed to us."

Araqchi pointed out that Qatar hopes that the United States’ reply will be completed on the 29th. Araqchi added that the current focus is still on the Strait of Hormuz, and the reopening of the Strait is based on the fact that the United States must fulfill certain conditions imposed by Iran.

The Strait of Hormuz is the core of the conflict between the United States and Iran. Before the conflict broke out, about one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas transportation passed through the strait. After the conflict between the United States and Iran broke out, Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz, and the United States also blocked Iranian ports.

Iran has demanded a seven-day ceasefire in the Middle East as a prerequisite for ending the blockade. Iran's ally Hezbollah has been fighting Israeli forces in Lebanon. Iran also demands that the United States unfreeze its overseas assets, lift sanctions on Iran's oil industry and end its naval blockade on Iran.
