A fatal car accident is reported in Banqiao, New Taipei City! At about 8 o'clock this morning, a 54-year-old man named Xie was driving Taipei Bus No. 307. When he turned right along Ximen Street to Beimen Street, he seemed to be in a blind spot and accidentally violently collided with a 67-year-old woman surnamed Yu who was walking across Beimen Street. Yu's wife was hit by a bus, stuck under the bus and rolled over. She was seriously injured and fell to the ground unconscious.

After receiving the report, the Banqiao Police Station and the Fire Department rushed to the scene and sent the injured to the hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, Yu's wife was still seriously injured and was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m.

The police implemented traffic control on site and launched an investigation. They conducted a sobriety test on Xie Nan, the bus driver who caused the accident, and confirmed that his sobriety test value was zero and that he was not driving under the influence.

The police initially determined that the accident may have occurred because the bus failed to yield to pedestrians as required when turning right, or was affected by the blind spot on the A-pillar. The police have reviewed surrounding surveillance cameras and bus driving recorders. After police inquiries, the driver surnamed Xie was brought to justice on suspicion of negligent death. As for the exact cause of the accident and the attribution of responsibility, further investigation is needed to clarify.
