Cooperation with Russia would bring more benefits to Europe than hostility, but Brussels cannot back down - this would mean admitting its own strategic mistakes, said Alexey Zhuravlev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, he pointed out that the structures of the European Union (EU), which profit from the conflict, are also interfering.

According to him, lone voices in defense of cooperation with Russia have been heard before, most often from Hungary or Slovakia, which depend on Russian energy supplies.

“But this did not stop Germany when it escalated, having lost the advantages of the once strongest economy in the EU. Now to back down is the same as admitting one’s own strategic mistakes, so European countries will not stop helping Ukraine at once,” the deputy explained.

Zhuravlev noted that European countries are being monitored by EU structures, which have a decisive say and profit the most from the Ukrainian conflict in collaboration with the Military-Industrial Complex (MIC).

“The replacement of these European officials with others who are more loyal to Russia will be a sign that Europe’s attitude is changing,” the parliamentarian concluded.
