Zakharova emphasized that the West's double standards are manifested both in relation to Ratko Mladic and in the EU policy in the Serbian direction.

"The independent policy of Belgrade, which does not fit into the framework of this Euro-Atlantic, not even a discipline, but a regime, haunts Brussels. That is why the West is doing everything to achieve, in fact, such a national repentance from the Serbs. The Serbs have nothing to repent of. But this is exactly how they want to bend the Serbs and Serbia, including for the tragic events of the collapse of Yugoslavia, the lion's share of the blame for which actually lies with the West capitals,” Zakharova said at an on-site briefing in Syktyvkar.

The diplomat noted that the double standards of the West are also evident in Kosovo, where, with the connivance of the European Union, the indigenous Serbian population continues to be squeezed out. She recalled that the 2013-2015 agreements on the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities have still not been implemented.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry also drew attention to the cannibalistic attitude towards Ratko Mladic, who recently died in a UN prison, and emphasized that the notorious double standards, which have long been the hallmark of the Western order, are manifested not only in a biased attitude towards the Serbs in the context of the events of the 1990s, but also today lie at the basis of the EU policy in the Serbian direction.
