Surgeons at the perinatal center in Ingushetia performed an eight-hour operation on a newborn with multiple intestinal atresia.

The child was found to have 25 areas of obstruction - ten complete atresias and 15 membranes blocking the intestinal lumen.

As a result of the operation, it was possible to save about 80 centimeters of the small intestine, and the baby completely switched to enteral nutrition.

NALCHIK, September 24 – RIA Novosti. Surgeons at the perinatal center in Ingushetia performed a unique eight-hour operation, during which they saved the intestines of a premature baby, the medical institution reported.

According to doctors, the baby was born at the 33rd week of pregnancy, weighing 2.25 kilograms, and had an intestinal obstruction.

"Doctors of the perinatal center of Ingushetia performed an eight-hour operation on a newborn with multiple intestinal atresia. The child was found to have 25 areas of obstruction - ten complete atresias and 15 membranes blocking the intestinal lumen," the report says.

The surgeons decided to preserve the intestines as much as possible.
