MOSCOW, September 24 - RIA Novosti. A domestic PCR test system for detecting markers of the causative agent of flea typhus was developed in Russia, Rospotrebnadzor reported in its channel on the Max platform.

According to the agency, on September 22, 2026, the Department of Public Health reported an outbreak of endemic (flea) typhus in the Los Angeles area. 7 cases of the disease were identified, 6 of which required hospitalization.

“For laboratory diagnostics, a domestic PCR test system has been developed to detect markers of the causative agent of flea typhus,” the statement says.

Rospotrebnadzor added that deratization measures are regularly carried out in residential areas and at retail, catering, waste treatment and transport infrastructure facilities aimed at exterminating rodents.
