Donald Tusk supports Monika Piątkowska in the presidential elections in Krakow

On Thursday, Donald Tusk accompanied the candidate for the mayor of Krakow, senator Monika Piątkowska (KO), during a meeting with residents.

As he said, in the assessments of many foreigners visiting Poland, both tourists and participants of state visits whom he receives at the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Krakow is often praised. In his opinion, Krakow is "Poland's showcase".

Krakow's chances are opportunities for Poland, because Krakow is well managed, with honest authorities, who use money well, with selfless people in power - I am talking specifically about Monika - this is also a guarantee that Poland will be the place that arouses admiration of everyone without exception - he emphasized.

He added that "it depends on us whether Poland will continue to be recognized as an oasis of order, safety, cleanliness and good organization."

Fight in difficult conditions

During Piątkowska's meeting with the inhabitants of Krakow, the Prime Minister said that he cared about her very much because she decided to fight in difficult conditions and said that she was not afraid. He stressed that he was aware of Piątkowska's starting point after Aleksander Miszalski lost the referendum, as a result of which he lost the position of president of Krakow.

Being an ambitious president of an ambitious city after a lot of troubles is a job for a hero. When I saw her determination, it impressed me. I know that such a city would be good to have a president who is not afraid of anything, Tusk said.

I deeply believe in Monika, I love Krakow very much, I love Poland very much and I will do everything to help her, but the decision belongs to the people of Krakow. I have no illusions that when people vote in Krakow, they will look at her, not at me - added the Prime Minister.

The KO leader said that Kraków is associated with modernity and technological ambitions and that is why it will face the challenges that the development of artificial intelligence poses to the labor market and jobs.

It is here in Krakow that we will practice how to use modern technologies in such a way that they do not threaten jobs. And I can commit here that this is one of the most important goals for the Polish government. (...) This is where we need to find the best possible recipes so that modern technologies and artificial intelligence serve people, serve Poland, Krakow and do not turn into some dangerous civilization phenomenon. This is our common task, said the head of government.

After the meeting in Krakow, Tusk wrote on X:

I was already polite. I won't play chess when someone approaches me with a baseball - the inhabitants of Krakow liked this declaration very much.

Elections in Krakow

The elections for the president of Krakow will be held on Sunday after the residents dismissed Aleksander Miszalski (KO) from this position in a referendum in May.

Krakow residents will choose the president from among seven candidates. These are: Michał Drewnicki (PiS), Łukasz Gibała (Kraków for Residents), Daria Gosek-Popiołek (Left Wing), Michał Klimek (Confederation of the Crown of Poland), Aleksandra Owca (Together), Monika Piątkowska (KWW Monika Piątkowska Nad Podziałami; support of KO and PSL), Sławomir Pietrzyk (Polish Social Democracy).
