Labor and management at Seoul National University Hospital reach a tentative agreement on wage and collective bargaining, one day ahead of a full-scale strike

Seoul National University Hospital's labor and management tentatively agreed to a 2026 wage and collective agreement on the 27th, a day before the union's full-scale strike.

Seoul National University Hospital held a provisional signing ceremony for a wage agreement with the union in the first conference room of the Daehan Medical Center at 9 p.m. on this day.

The agreement included ▲ a 3.5% increase in total wages (compliance with government guidelines) ▲ improvement of working conditions ▲ recruitment of nursing staff ▲ efforts to maintain the public nature of medical care, etc.

Seoul National University Hospital said, “Based on this agreement, we will maintain a stable treatment environment, continue a win-win labor-management relationship, and faithfully fulfill our responsibilities as a national central hospital.”

The Seoul National University Hospital branch of the Seoul branch of the Medical Solidarity Headquarters of the Public Transport Workers' Union was scheduled to go on a full-scale strike starting on the 28th, based on the results of the industrial action vote held on the 16th to 20th of this month (voter turnout of 79.6%, approval rating of 91.6%) and discussions at the extraordinary representative meeting on the 22nd.

The Seoul National University Hospital branch has been demanding the recruitment of essential personnel for patient safety, an increase in real wages, and the immediate transfer of the department in charge of Seoul National University Hospital to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

According to the Seoul National University Hospital Branch, the ratio of new nurses at Seoul National University Hospital's main hospital rose by 10 percentage points from 15.9% in the first quarter of 2024 to 25.9% in the first quarter of this year due to the recruitment of experienced nurses as PAs, and the number of resignations increased by approximately 7.3 times from 14 to 102 during the same period.
