Tokayev posthumously awarded the sailors who died in the Caspian Sea

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev posthumously awarded 14 military sailors the Order of Aibyn, II degree, named after Bauyrzhan Momyshuly for the courage and dedication shown in the performance of military duty.

During exercises in the Mangistau region on the Caspian coast, due to a sharp deterioration in weather, 17 military sailors were carried away at sea, 14 of them died, three were rescued.

ALMA-ATA, September 27 - RIA Novosti. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev posthumously awarded 14 military sailors who died during exercises in the Caspian Sea with the Order of Aibyn, II degree, named after Bauyrzhan Momyshuly, the press service of the head of the republic reports.

“By the decree of the head of state, for the courage and dedication shown in the performance of military duty, state awards of the Republic of Kazakhstan (posthumously) were awarded to military personnel who died during exercises in the Mangistau region. The Order of Aibyn, II degree, named after Bauyrzhan Momyshuly,” the presidential press service said in a statement.

On Thursday, during exercises in the Mangystau region on the Caspian coast, due to a sharp deterioration in weather and increased wind, 17 military sailors were carried out to sea, 14 of them died, three were rescued. On the same day, a criminal case was opened into the death of servicemen and a government commission was created to investigate the causes of the tragedy.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan on Friday announced the detention of five officials from the Ministry of Defense system. Tokayev also ordered a comprehensive audit of the department.
