According to the news on the Politico website, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright made a proposal to EU countries as an alternative to the option of banning diesel exports, brought forward by US President Donald Trump.
The proposal envisages EU countries launching diesel from their national strategic reserves in a coordinated manner.
In this context, EU countries were asked to release 120 million barrels of diesel in their strategic reserves to the market within 180 days.
This amount corresponds to more than one third of the total diesel reserves of EU countries, which are approximately 315 million barrels.
Among EU countries, the largest diesel reserves are in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Poland.
US President Trump had announced that the option of restricting diesel exports was still on the agenda.
This issue is expected to be brought to the agenda at the meeting of the International Energy Agency (IEA) board of directors tomorrow.
