TPAO focused on full independence in energy with a daily production target of 1 million barrels. The new energy vision is in effect as the Osman Gazi Floating Platform begins its work.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar shared Turkey's vision of complete independence in energy at a time when the global energy crisis is deepening. Providing the details of the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, which will play a critical role in the processing of Black Sea gas, Minister Bayraktar announced that Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) is focusing on the goal of producing 1 million barrels of oil and natural gas equivalent per day, together with its domestic and international operations.
Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform is Preparing for Duty
Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, which will set out for its mission area in the Black Sea at the end of October, represents one of the most advanced engineering steps in Turkey's deep sea energy operations. The platform will operate uninterruptedly off the coast of Filyos for 20 years.
There are 21 different facilities within the platform. While 11 of these facilities were built from scratch, 10 of them are undergoing comprehensive modernization. 7 of the 11 units built from scratch were produced entirely with domestic industry means; Thus, 70 percent of the new facilities on the platform came to life directly in Turkey. Approximately 30 kilometers of piping and 642 kilometers of cabling were completed in the huge operation carried out in the field.

With the project, there is also a remarkable reverse brain drain in the energy sector. While the local employment rate in the drilling and captaincy staff managed by foreign experts in the past years has exceeded 70 percent, many experienced Turkish engineers working abroad are also returning to the country to join this giant operation in Turkey.
Production Will Quadruple: New Platform Coming in 2028
Work continues uninterruptedly to transition to the third phase of gas production in the Black Sea. Minister Bayraktar stated that the manufacturing process of a second floating production platform, which will directly quadruple the production, is continuing. This new platform, whose name has not yet been determined, is planned to be brought to Turkey at the end of 2027 and included in active production in 2028.
The production capacity, which is currently around 350 thousand barrels in total through domestic and international operations, is aimed to be increased to 550 to 600 thousand barrels in 2028, and to 1 million barrels per day in the final process. Thus, Türkiye has a structure that meets the oil and natural gas it consumes through its own operations.
Global Crisis, Subsidies and 2040 Vision
Pointing out that the geopolitical crises in the Straits of Hormuz and Babülmandeb blocked global energy routes, Bayraktar stated that Turkey did not experience any disruption in supply security thanks to its strong infrastructure. It was reported that despite global cost increases, the subsidy rate reflected to citizens on the natural gas side has exceeded 50 percent. On the fuel side, price stability was achieved by waiving 250 billion lira of tax revenue through the Eşel Mobil system.
The Ministry is preparing to announce the "New Energy Architecture" plan, which redefines Turkey's entire road map from electricity to natural gas, from oil to renewable energy. Details of the comprehensive strategy document containing 2040 targets will be shared with the public at the end of October or early November.
