US officials claim drone attack on oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia

Speaking to the American CNN channel, two US officials claimed that the oil pipeline system in Saudi Arabia was hit with various ammunition.

Authorities stated that, according to initial findings, the pump stations located next to the pipeline were targeted in the attack, and claimed that unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), believed to have taken off from Iraq, were used in the attack.

Authorities stated that it is not yet clear who was behind the attack and whether the pipeline was directly damaged, and that it is not known how long it will take to repair the damage.

Satellite images taken from the region showed extensive fire damage at one of the pump stations, while there was a small fire at another station with dense black smoke rising.

According to satellite images and fire detection data, smoke and thermal activity were noticed along the route of Saudi Arabia's strategic East-West oil pipeline.

In the visuals transferred from Sentinel-3 satellite images, a large black smoke cloud was detected along the general route of the pipeline in the desert between Medina and Mehd ez-Zeheb.

The Fire Information and Resource Management System, called "FIRMS" by the US Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), also recorded clustered thermal anomalies in the region.
