The President of Somaliland visits the United States on his first official working visit

The Somaliland presidency announced that its president, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, left for the United States on Thursday on his first official working visit since assuming office.

President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Ero will travel to the United States via the United Arab Emirates, according to a statement issued by the Somaliland Presidency.

Details of the duration of the visit or the officials he might meet were not revealed.

The region's presidency described the visit as "historic" and said that it "aims to strengthen diplomatic relations and expand cooperation in the fields of security and economic development."

The statement added: "The visit will focus on attracting foreign investments and supporting Somaliland's efforts to obtain broader international recognition."

During the visit, Abdullahi is expected to meet with American officials and other influential figures “to present Somaliland’s interests, priorities and long-term aspirations.”

The presidency affirmed that "the visit demonstrates Somaliland's readiness to engage internationally with confidence and to seek to establish strategic partnerships based on common interests."
