Tornado disaster in Adana: 20 thousand chicks perished

A tornado formed in Ağzıkaraca District of Adana's İmamoğlu district yesterday at noon along with a heavy rain. While some greenhouses were damaged due to the short-term tornado, major damage occurred in 2 chicken farms belonging to Fatih and Emre Özdemir.

Pieces of the collapsed roofs of the farms fell on the chicks and parked vehicles. According to initial findings, approximately 20 thousand chicks in 2 farms died due to falling parts and showers. There was also a power outage due to the collapse of some power poles in the region.

Explaining what he experienced, Fatih Özdemir said, "Our financial damage is around 10 million lira. In addition to our farm, the surrounding banana greenhouses and neighboring facilities also had their share of the disaster. It will take at least 5 months for the facility to be cleaned, the equipment renewed and put into operation again. We demand that the authorities inspect the area as soon as possible and complete the damage assessment, and that the area be declared a disaster zone and support the producers."
