Shipwreck in the Mediterranean: Sea Watch recovers survivors and bodies

The Aurora ship of the NGO Sea Watch identified an almost deflated dinghy, reported by Alarm Phone in the Libyan SAR area with 5 people and 2 lifeless bodies on board, including, according to witnesses, one of a child. "About 25 people had clung to the Hasdrubal platform to escape a shipwreck. Two women reported having lost their children in the waves - explains the NGO - The dinghy was on the border of the Libyan and Tunisian SAR area and it was the 5 survivors who told us that other people would have managed to reach the oil platform after the shipwreck - underlines Sea Watch - between the two lifeless bodies there was that of a child, perhaps one of the two missing". After recovering the 5 survivors and the two bodies, Aurora reached the platform upon authorization from the Tunisian authorities and began transferring the people on board. "Among them there is also a newborn baby", concludes the NGO.

"Speaking with the survivors on board Aurora we learned that there were not twenty missing, but six, including three children." The NGO Sea Watch reports this. The ship is now headed to Lampedusa, for the disembarkation of the rescued people. "We will arrive in the afternoon - states the NGO - we have 28 people on board: 5 rescued from the dinghy and 23 from the Hasdrubal platform. We also have two corpses on board the Aurora".
