Teenager escapes attempted kidnapping in Engenho Novo

The girl was returning from school along Rua Dona Romana, in Engenho Novo, when, at around 7:40 pm, a man inside a car with tinted windows approached her, claiming to have a gun.

The young woman believed it was a robbery and gave the man her cell phone, but ended up being pulled into the vehicle.

After the kidnapper started the car, the teenager, who was in the front seat, took advantage of a moment of carelessness and jumped out of the moving vehicle.

"When he turns his face away, she opens the car door and ends up jumping out. She hits her head on the road and scrapes her knee", narrated the victim's father.

After escaping, the teenager ran into a condominium. The criminal fled with her purse.

The family registered the incident at the 23rd DP (Méier). Delegate Muriel Menezes seeks information about the kidnapper. “Anyone who has identification of the vehicle or details that could help in capturing it can contact the nearest police station or Hotline,” he said.

“It is also very important to warn children and teenagers so that they do not approach unknown vehicles”, added Muriel.
