Young man from Rondônia dies after being lynched at a party in the interior of Ceará

The young man from Rondônia who was victim of lynching during a party in Iguatu, in the interior of Ceará, in the early hours of this Sunday (6), is Herbert Douglas Oliveira da Silva, 23 years old. Three suspects in the crime were arrested.

The attacks that led to Herbert's death occurred at the Iguatu Exhibition Park, during ExpoIguatu. Videos taken by witnesses show the young man being attacked by other party participants and event security guards.

Herbert Douglas had been living in Iguatu for around three months, after leaving the city of Guajará-Mirim. Initially, he came on a trip with his brother, to visit his relatives, but decided to stay in the city of Ceará, at his aunt's house, to study, as he wanted to take the exam for the state's Military Police.

"He was a very good young man, everyone loved him. They killed him with the greatest cruelty," said Eliene de Melo, Herbert Douglas's aunt.

The young man was a sergeant in the Brazilian Army in Rondônia, but had left the force a few months ago and was making plans to move to Ceará for good, according to his aunt.

"He had a car there, he had land, a house. Then he said: 'I'm going to go back, sell [the assets] there and buy my [land] here", commented Eliene.

Herbert Duglas' body will be transported to the city of Porto Velho (RO), where his mother, Josefa Oliveira, is waiting to receive him.

"My son was a worker, dear, everyone liked him. I wanted justice for what they did to my son. I sent my son to visit his family in Ceará and now I'm going to pick up my son from the coffin", said the victim's mother.

Douglas was with friends at the event, drinking alcohol, when he got involved in a fight with other men. The security guards then approached to intervene in the fight, but they also ended up attacking the boy.

Douglas was rescued and taken to a local hospital, but he did not survive the injuries caused by the attacks.

The Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense reported that three men, aged 21, 25 and 28, were arrested red-handed by the Military Police on suspicion of involvement in the young man's death.

After capture, the suspects, whose identities were not disclosed, were taken to the Iguatu Civil Police Station. Now they are available to the courts.

The Rotary Club of Iguatu, which organizes the event, and the City of Iguatu, which supports the fair, regretted the case.

The Rotary Club of Iguatu deeply regrets the serious episode that occurred in the early hours of this Sunday (6), during the festive event held at the Enéas Bandeira Filho Exhibition Park. After a confusion involving some people on the Park's premises, a man was injured, was rescued and taken to the Iguatu Regional Hospital, where, unfortunately, he died shortly afterwards. The Military Police carried out the first procedures and took two people to the Civil Police Station. The case is being investigated to clarify the circumstances, responsibilities and possible participation of other people. The Rotary Club of Iguatu monitors the progress of the investigations and remains at the disposal of the authorities to collaborate with the complete clarification of the facts.

The City of Iguatu expresses solidarity with the family and friends of young Douglas Oliveira da Silva, who lost his life after a widespread fight during a private event held at the Iguatu Rotary Club Exhibition Park. He was taken to the Iguatu Regional Hospital, but, unfortunately, he arrived there already dead. The City Hall clarifies that the festive event is held by Rotary of Iguatu through the companies 5 Estrela Promoções, TM Entretenimento and Rafinha Produções, and therefore had private security. It is also known that the Military Police were called and took two suspects to the Police Station, considering the State's obligation to protect the population.
