The Union's attorney general claims to have Lula's support and says that public agents must follow the Constitution

The Union's attorney general, Jorge Messias, stated this Sunday (6) that he had the support of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in his actions and that people with public functions must act based on the Constitution.

The statement, made on social media, comes at a time when, as Folha showed, members of the Federal Police (PF) say they see Messias' omission in the crisis that culminated in the order from the Supreme Court minister, André Mendonça, to prepare a report that exposed exchanges of messages between his court colleague, Alexandre de Moraes, and former banker Daniel Vorcaro.

The conversations, revealed by the newspaper Estado de S. Paulo and also obtained by Folha, indicate a close relationship between Moraes and Vorcaro. The report with this information was produced by the PF, at Mendonça's request.

Moraes reacted to the measure and requested an investigation against Mendonça for abuse of authority, for allegedly starting an investigation against another minister without the support of the court. The request was also made based on a police document, which criticizes the AGU's actions and calls it negligent.

Messias states, in this Sunday's post, that he decided to speak out "considering different interpretations of my recent institutional positions." He does not cite any minister, nor the STF (Supreme Federal Court), nor the director general of the Federal Police.

"Issues of State must be dealt with in accordance with constitutional commandments, with impersonality, technical foundations and transparency. The public service must never be guided by friendships, affinities or personal circumstances, but by the Constitution and the rules of the Republic", he states.

"I am instructed by President Lula to never compromise with the highest ethical and professional standards. I have from his excellency the necessary support to carry out my duties, with technical independence, legal rigor and absolute fidelity to the Constitution", he adds.
