Lawyer suspected of murdering wife in Maringá is arrested after confessing to crime to family member

João Vitor Domingues Romeiro was arrested on suspicion of murdering Gassi Mazia, in Maringá. The woman's body was in the apartment where the child was found. g1 tries to identify the husband's defense.

Lawyer João Romeiro is suspected of murdering his wife in the apartment where they lived, leaving the place and leaving their eight-month-old son alone at the address.

The victim was identified as doctor Gassi Mazia, 37 years old. The crime took place in Maringá, in the North of Paraná, on Saturday night (5).

The baby was found by a family member of the doctor, who was informed about the murder.

Lawyer João Vitor Domingues Romeiro, 25 years old, is suspected of murdering his wife in the apartment where they lived, leaving the place and leaving their eight-month-old son alone at the address.

The victim was identified as doctor Gassi Mazia, 37 years old. The crime took place in Maringá, in the North of Paraná, on Saturday night (5). g1 tries to locate the husband's defense.

The baby was found by a family member of the doctor, who was notified about the murder, went to the address where she lived and, outside the apartment, heard the child crying. When breaking down the door, he also found Gassi's body with signs of a stabbing.

The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) went to the scene and confirmed the woman's death. According to the police report, there were three knives next to her.

The baby was not injured, according to the Military Police (PM-PR). There is no information on how long he was alone in the apartment.

Suspect went to the neighboring town

The investigation found that, after Gassi's death, the suspect drove alone to the courtyard of a family member's house in Mandaguari, 32 kilometers away from Maringá. The police were called by residents after the lawyer was seen with several injuries.

In testimony, the military police told the Civil Police (PC-PR) that João confessed to this family member that he had killed Gassi. The woman, who was also interviewed by the police chief, reported that the man did not give details about the crime, saying only that he had suffocated his wife and killed her.

João was found by military police officers still inside the car, with injuries to his neck. He was arrested for the crime of feminicide and was admitted to a hospital, where he is under police escort.

When the police arrived at the scene of the crime, Samu was already at the address and the baby was with the family.

Victim and suspect were public servants

Gassi worked as a doctor at the Basic Health Unit (UBS) Nova Aliança, in Sarandi, seven kilometers away from Maringá. The municipality issued a note of condolence over the employee's death and expressed "repudiation of all forms of violence against all women".

João Romeiro is a lawyer and worked as a legal advisor at the Marialva Attorney General's Office, 17 kilometers away from Maringá. In the early hours of this Sunday (6), he was dismissed from his position.
