Trump shares victory in German state legislature election with far-right party AfD

On the 6th (local time), U.S. President Donald Trump shared the results of the far-right German party Alternative for Germany (AfD)'s landslide victory in state legislative elections through his social media (SNS) account.

On this day, President Trump posted the results of the legislative election results in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt on TruthSocial. No separate mention was made.

As of 10:40 p.m. (German time), when 94% of the votes had been counted, the AfD received 44.8% of the votes, beating the centrist-conservative Christian Democratic Party (16.8%) to become the largest party.

The AfD failed to secure a majority of seats, so it is unclear whether it will succeed in taking power in the provincial government for the first time since its founding.

dpa news agency pointed out that the relationship between President Trump's US Republican Party and the AfD was one of the main issues ahead of the German federal election in February last year.

President Trump welcomed the results, which predicted that the AfD would come in second place in the election, following the centrist-conservative coalition of the Christian Democratic Party and the Christian Social Party, as "a great day for Germany and the United States."

Also, a week before the election, US Vice President JD Vance supported the AfD in a keynote speech at the Munich Security Conference and urged Germany's mainstream political parties to abolish the 'firewall' of not cooperating with the AfD.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was close to President Trump at the time, also supported the AfD through a video speech, and AfD co-chair Alice Weidel responded by saying, “Make Germany great again,” imitating President Trump’s slogan.
