Delta Electronics (2308) expanded its AI smart manufacturing layout and debuted its "embodied intelligent dual-arm collaboration" solution at the Taipei International Automation Exhibition today. It integrates AI models and equipment control through an AI robot control software platform, allowing robots to autonomously complete task learning, analysis, and execution. It is targeted at complex assembly of small quantities, diverse, and multi-process such as AI servers. Delta has also used AI to enhance line-level digital twins, and the relevant technology has been introduced into the AI server power supply production line of its Thailand factory.
Gao Luhua, general manager of Delta's Electrical and Electronics Business Group, said that as global localization promotes cross-domain intelligent manufacturing models, and the manufacturing industry faces the challenge of labor shortage, factories will further move from automation to autonomy, and AI, intelligent robots and digital twins will become the key. The group is currently integrating relevant technologies to build an AI-ready platform, targeting the four major industries of machinery, robotics, electronics and electrical engineering, and semiconductors, to assist end customers and equipment manufacturers in deploying smart production lines.
In terms of robot layout, Delta's "intelligent dual-arm collaboration" solution uses the "AI robot control software platform" as the core, which connects multiple AI model inputs and equipment control. When paired with Delta's modular robots, the robots can learn tasks, analyze processes, execute and correct themselves through different types of data such as language and images, reducing the difficulty of software and hardware integration for the introduction of AI robots in the manufacturing industry.
Delta pointed out that the dual-arm collaborative robot on display can draw portraits in a selected style through voice control, demonstrating that the robot can autonomously complete tasks from learning to execution. The relevant architecture is combined with NVIDIA's Jetson AGX Orin module and Isaac ROS software suite to establish real-time 3D environment models and dynamic obstacle avoidance capabilities. In the future, multi-process and complex assembly processes such as AI server assembly can be further introduced to improve production line changeover and multi-work flexibility.
In addition to embodied smart robots, Delta has also introduced AI into the entire line-level digital twin to simulate and optimize everything from product assembly, production line design, equipment verification to product defect detection. Taking the PCB glue spraying process as an example, Delta integrated the virtual machine development platform DIATwin and Huida Omniverse function library, using AI to automatically generate the best path and convert it into a machine recipe. The verification is completed in the virtual environment, shortening the mass production preparation cycle. The relevant technology has been introduced into the AI server power supply production line of Delta's Thailand factory.
Delta has also introduced defect image generation technology driven by technologies such as Huida's Cosmos open world basic model to automatically generate images of different defect patterns and surface texture data, speeding up AI defect detection model training and increasing the automatic optical inspection (AOI) detection rate by 17%. The preparation time for defect models for new and unknown products has also been shortened from three months to two weeks, further accelerating the introduction of new products and production line deployment.
AI outlook — possibilities, not facts
Delta will continue to expand the application and deployment of its AI-ready platform in the semiconductor and electronics industries.
