Minister Bae Kyung-hoon "Government-wide common AI platform replaced with Dokpamo 2nd model"

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kwon Ha-young = Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science, Technology and Information and Communication Bae Kyeong-hoon announced that he will replace the AI model applied to the government-wide common artificial intelligence (AI) platform built for civil servant work with the second model of the independent foundation model (Dokpamo).

Deputy Prime Minister Bae said this during the National Assembly audit of the Ministry of Science and ICT by the Science and ICT Committee held at the main building of the National Assembly on the 6th.

On this day, People Power Party lawmaker Kim Jang-gyeom pointed out that the Samsung SDS and Naver Cloud platforms, which are participating in a government-wide common AI-based project to build the government's business AI platform, include models from China's Beijing Institute of Artificial Intelligence (BAAI), which were designated as subject to export control by the U.S. Department of Commerce last year.

Regarding this, Deputy Prime Minister Bae explained, "It is a reality that the public and industrial sectors are using the Chinese AI model," but "the domestic AI model used in the government-wide AI common base is the first result of Dokpamo."

Deputy Prime Minister Bae said, "In the first round, we did not emphasize usability, and we adopted some models that had achieved some results. In the second and third rounds, our goal was to produce results that were globally competitive."

He continued, "At this point, the four models released as a result of the second evaluation of DokpaMo can be fully utilized in the government-wide common AI base," and added, "We will work to replace them, and in the future, we will be able to apply Dokpamo second model in earnest in the public sector and further spread it in the third."

In the Dokpamo project, an independent AI model development project, four companies, including SK Telecom [017670], LG [003550] AI Research Institute, Upstage, and Motif Technologies, disclosed their models during the second evaluation process, and the remaining three companies selected as a result of the evaluation excluding Motif are preparing for the third evaluation.

Representative Kim previously pointed out that 7 out of 11 AI models installed in the government-wide common AI platform are models developed by foreign companies, accounting for more than half.

It was explained that the largest model of the Samsung SDS platform was developed by the domestic company Upstage, but the largest model of the Naver Cloud platform is Nvidia's 'Nemotron 3 Ultra 550B'.
