Mayor of Manresa regrets death by knife of a neighbor and announces appearance as a popular accusation

The mayor of Manresa (Barcelona), Marc Aloy, has regretted the stabbing death of Carles Vilajosana, a 45-year-old resident of Castellnou de Bages, in the early hours of Tuesday and has announced that the City Council will appear as a popular accusation in the case.

The councilor, accompanied by the Minister of Justice of the Generalitat, Ramon Espadaler, by the Government delegate in Central Catalonia, Èlia Tortolero, and by municipal representatives, presided over a minute of silence at 12:00 in front of the Town Hall.

Several hundred people have previously gone to the Plaça Major, where the headquarters of the Manresa City Council is located, to express their condemnation of the events and demand "justice."

Two minors arrested

For her part, the Minister of the Interior and Public Security of the Generalitat, Núria Parlon, has charged against Vox and Aliança Catalana for their "xenophobic associations" against the two minors arrested for their alleged relationship with the stabbing death of the resident of Castellnou, a municipality of 1,500 inhabitants 15 kilometers from Manresa.

In an interview on Catalunya Ràdio, the councilor assured that "the two minors have a family and were born in Catalonia", which is why she criticized that the leaders of these two parties have taken advantage of the case to "spread hate speech".

"We cannot blame a group for the very serious acts committed by certain people," said Parlon, who regretted that the extreme right has launched "false information against a vulnerable group [unaccompanied foreign minors]."
